This is Wiley (GRCH Topaz Second Chance Wile E. Coyote at Stargazzer). He fell in love with Haven right away and the feeling was mutual. He is a great Siberian with a terrific temperament and movement, to boot!
Wiley, with his dad, Larry, getting Best of Breed in September 2016.
This is Wiley’s pedigree WS 46801003. He has passed his genetic clearances for his eyes and hips.
Haven’s AKC certified pedigree. She has also passed all her genetic clearances: hips, eyes and thyroid.
So, there are 5 little pups coming! Very exciting for Amarok Siberians!
I love this sonogram pic of one little pupplet already showing his front leg reach! He (or she) can not wait to get out there and show their “reach and drive” and they are practicing!
All the pupplets have a good strong heartbeat!
The whelping box is set up and preparations are happening about a week prior! I want all the Siberians in the house to know about the upcoming special delivery!
This is Haven at about day 56. She is up 12# with this litter and basically no additional food! She gave a little yip in the middle of the night last night- probably got a kick from one of the pupplets!
She is doing a lot of chillaxin these days! But, who can blame her as it will become pretty busy for her right soon! And very busy for me, too!
A tisket-a tasket, check out what is in MY basket! Doc says they were more than ready to get out and were yelling before they were out of their sacks!
Safe landing has occurred! 10/9/2017. 3 boys and 2 girls are now part of Amarok’s pack and mom and the pups are home! The first few days are quiet days with just lots of mom and puppy bonding. Ash, Quista and Magic are getting used to all the new puppy smells around the house!
Welcome little Siberian pupplets! I am glad to have you aboard!
This grey boy has a beautiful mask. He weighs in at 15 oz. Every pup is just about the same weight- right around 1#; give or take.
The second grey boy is a lighter grey and has a wider white stripe on his face. He also has a white v on his back. Beautiful! He is a hefty 1# 1 oz.
Here is the first gal and she is a light grey. She weighs in at 1# 1/2 oz. Everyone will get weekly weigh ins from now on.
The second gal is dark grey. She also has white on her shoulders which sets her off! She weighs 15.5 oz.
…And last, but never least is our one red boy! He weighs in at 15 oz. So that is our new gang. Stay tuned as we all grow and grow!
This is a closeup of the mark on the back of the dark grey gal It is like a little upside down triangle. So cute and distinctive!
…And this is the mark on the back of the little grey guy. It is a little V. Another very distinctive mark that sets him apart!
It must be the bedding isn’t quite enough for him, so he has found his own pillow! Very creative for a 2 day old! But, truly, they are all already scooting around and locating mom when she is feet away from them.
Now, Kayta is Haven’s mom and she always slept like this. Both Haven and her brother, Ash sleep this way as well. All of Kayta’s kids sleep this way as do all her grandpups. I wonder if these will follow in Kayta’s odd sleeping position, too?
Today is the first big road trip to have dew claws removed. The pups only have their front dew claws and it is no big deal for removal at 3 days old. Here is one of our fav vets, Dr. Carroll, with a few getting ready to send us off back home. All the pups get lots of love and socialization at the vets so it is a very good thing to visit!
So, we are home from our big first road trip and everyone is hungry and tired. Some of the pups want to sleep first, others want to fill their bellies first! But, regardless, all did very well after their first big trip with momma along for support. They will sleep well, no doubt!
The pups are growing like weeds. At the vet yesterday each is now WELL over 1# @. You can see the difference in this photo! What a difference a few days makes, huh? Mom is taking great care of them. They are all scooting all around the whelping box and finding mom without any problem. Each pup got a foot massage from me this morning…the learning process begins-
Just a few days ago, I snapped a pic of Haven catching a few zzz’s on her back like her mom. Well, here is her son doing the same thing in just about the same position. Genetics! I just love it!
No doubt, I just love those little pink puppy pads and there is your shot of them with the red boys little white tipped tail. As a side note, I have given all their registered names as they will be preregistered with the AKC. They all have to do with Autumn and Fall since they were born in October. That is all for now…Stay tuned~
As you know Siberians are in the working category for the AKC & these pups ‘jobs’ are eating & sleeping! And they get a great A+ rating for their work performance in each area! Everyday, each one is held, cuddled & loved. Each is getting used to being handled by close & trusted friends & me! Tomorrow they are 1 week old & they will be weighed & have individual photos done.
Here is the light grey boy at 1 week old and the time has certainly flown by! On the scale today he is 1# 13 oz. and doing great!
This is the 2nd light grey male just catching some zzz’s on this nice cool fall afternoon. His weight today is 1# 11.5 oz. ~ coming along fine!
Here is the dark grey gal with the white spot on her back. You will note she had to have a few spots shaved when mom became a little exuberant with her when she was still under sedation. No worries, she will be just fine, just waiting for a little hair to grow back. Her weight at 1 week is 1# 12.5 oz.
The second dark gr. gal weighs exactly the same as her sister…1# 12.5 oz. You know what they say about sisters!
…And, last but never least is the red boy who weighs in today at 1# 9 oz. Everyone is gaining at a nice even pace and doing just fine. In a few days, Haven gets her stitches out and the pups will get more vet love and socialization time and another road trip!
Just as human babies fall asleep with a pacifier, pups often fall asleep with a nip in their mouth, too!
Quista is always first to go all around the whelping box looking for a way “in”. She will stand up and just smell the pups. Here she is getting her first look. She just loves them!
Ash and Quista are both interested in the pups. They both just quietly watch…kind of in awe of these little ones! Haven is not far away keeping a watchful eye, though!
The next 9 pics show how I do toenails with the pups. First get them on their backs. Initially, they are a little tight and rolled up. Back position is new and a submissive position that needs to be done early. Be calm and slowly rub their chest.
They will start to relax. Some take longer than others and you may get a yawn or two as this feels good as they start to relax. Notice the head is starting to go down and the front legs are not as high.
Here the pup is really in relaxation mode and I am starting to massage his pads. His head in totally on my lap and he is calm, calm, calm.
Still more front and back paw massage that feels SO good! Pup even shows a nice calm relaxed expression on his face.
Ash learning nail acceptance
The pups had their dew claws off at 3 days with Dr. Carroll, so there are only 4 nails to do on @ front paw. There were no dew claws on any of the pups back paws.
Now that nails are done, I spend just a few minutes on the face…massaging cheeks, chin, ears, etc.
The pups need to know that humans can touch them anywhere and that touch is good. The sooner this is started the better for the pups. If the pups are used to this, s/he will be much more accepting for nails and grooming in general as s/he grows into a beautiful adult.
And if you are lucky you will be rewarded to one huge happy Siberian Husky yawn to let you know this was a positive experience for both hearts involved!
Now that the pups are over a week old it is time to start socialization. This is a process that needs to be continued for the life of these dogs. I start with very close and trusted friends, 2 of my besties and my next door neighbor!
All of these folks are people that Haven knows and feels comfortable with. Therefore, she knows that they will take good care of her puppies, too. That is important, as she, like all moms, is protective of her pups!
During this process, Haven is out with us visiting and just relaxing and making sure all is well. I am doing toenails on 2 more puppies. Everyone is relaxed and calm, as you can see!
It is a good introduction to socialization and a nice relaxing time for everyone involved. The process continues.
First thing this morning I grabbed the camera as I saw the Light Grey male sleeping stretched out. This is a good position we like to see out pups sleep in. I have seen some of them start to sleep in this position but it was the first time I have been able to snap a pic of it. Also, starting to see some personality come out in the pups and fur is starting to thicken up. Changes everyday. A busy time going on inside these little pups!
The pups are moving around so well now and taking big alternating steps. They are starting to climb up and under mom as shown in this and the next photo. She is tolerant, as any good mom should be!
Today was road trip.2 day. We went to the vets and had Haven’s stitches out and had all the pups rechecked. Every pup is doing great and the dark grey girl is healing up beautifully, too. Everyone got a thumbs up from Dr. Bache with lots of love and more socialization. We are getting so big, BJ had to use the biggest basket she has!
Socialization is a continuing process that happens everyday and our circle widens today. You want the pups to be exposed to not only each person’s different smell, but their own individual way of handling the pup.
Everyone’s voice is different and the pups are beginning to hear things now. Eyes are still tightly closed, though.
The pups are really starting to walk. Some are taking their first tender steps on their feet. A few are even taking notice of mom’s food bowl when it arrives in the box! It is a very exciting time in the whelping box.
All the pups totally accept being on their backs now and find it so relaxing. They just let their front and back legs just flop and enjoy the time. It is a delight to see!
There is just no place better to take a little nap than under mom’s tender loving front leg where she can watch over and protect me…
Peek-a-boo! The eyes have it and they are starting to open today, just 1 day shy of 2 weeks! Here is Shyla (that is the call name that I will use with her while she is here) with her eyes open.
The light grey boy with the white shoulders opened his eyes this morning, too. Right now, they are not too wide and everything is pretty blurry to them. But, day by day, things will clear up for them and I will get a better idea of their color.
The dark grey girl, Nakai (Nah-kai) is the 3rd and last to open her eyes today. The other two are still closed. Everything is a process and fun journey. They are just a motoring all over the whelping box, rolling over, and climbing up and down Mom. Getting busy in there for short bursts of time, with much rest in between.
And to celebrate his 2nd week old birthday, the light grey boy decided it was time to view the world! Hello there! Now, we are just waiting for the red boy and everyone will have eyes open, and that will be good! Tomorrow will be a busy day, as it is nail trim day again and first wormer day!! Whoohoo! I have also given everyone a call name for their use while they are at my home. I will let you know them as soon as the red boy opens his eyes, too.
Pups sleep in bunches, bundles, rows, in pairs, triples, quadruples, spread out all over the place, on each other or under each other! But, no doubt, they SLEEP, probably 90% of the day at this point in time.
Pups are now not just doing their first wobbly walking, but their first wobbly standing. Here is Shyla standing for her mom.
Now, here’s another one sleeping just like mom and grandma. Genetics, I see it again and again…not only in sleeping position, but in temperament, glances, noises…all over the place. I just love genetics!
At 2 weeks you can just barely see the very start of teeth starting to make an imprint on the gums. Big changes are happening just about every day now and it is very hard to keep up with these little guys and gals!
Once eyes are open, the pups actually begin to see they are not the only beings in the world. Exploration begins! In fact, their first game is being played here! “I’ve got your nose!” Such fun!! As soon as the red boy opens his eyes (VERY SOON), I start clicker training and you will know their call names while they are here.
Everyday, the pups get a meet and greet with someone new! Women, men, young, old, all ages and kinds of folks. We meet and like them all!
…And guess what? The red boy greeted me with eyes today! And, as promised tomorrow will reveal all call names with meanings and updated weights.
The light grey boy, Amarok’s Falling Autumn Leaves has been given the call name Kaede, pro. Cade. It means “Maple Leaf”.
Kaede’s weight is 3# 12 oz. today and he continues to do very well. He shows much interest in mom’s food and can not wait for Monday when he will get a taste!
The light grey boy with white on his shoulders, like his dad, is Amarok’s Rising Northern Wind. His call name is Ta`te. That means “The Wind”,
Ta’te weighs exactly the same as his brother- 3# 12 oz. and also is showing interest in his mom’s food. It will be interesting to watch them get their first taste! That will be the first video! Stay tuned!
The dark grey gal, Amarok’s Unknown Blessings, shall be named Nakai…the “One who wanders”. Her little sore spots are all healing up very well and will be totally absent when the fur grows back. Nothing is holding her back!
Nakai is 3# 6.5 oz. and is no slouch in the food department, just like her brothers.
The other dark grey gal, Amarok’s Autumn Harmony is Shyla which means Daughter of the Mountains.
Shyla is just a hair heavier than Nakai, today at 3# 8 oz. Pretty close~
Amarok’s Autumn Eyes of Bronze is named after my Heart Dog, Kaho, His call name is Tiquana. The Q sounds like a hard K…Tikanna. Tiquana means “Adopted Son”
Tiquana weighs in at 3# 7 oz. All these names are Indian, Chucki (Eskimo) or Japanese.
It was an incredibly busy day for all the puppies today! Not only did they turn 3 weeks old and get weighed, but they also had face to face meeting with Aunt Quista and Uncle Ash, who were delighted to meet them in person! Welcome to the Amarok family!
They also had their first taste of food which I video taped (I hope to have it on the website tomorrow). It is interesting to see how they acclimate to it so quickly within 6 minutes. They also had their first taste of water and first playtime with me and toys and their first experience with clickers. As the Smilebox says…Everyday brings new experiences and this is only the start! Stay tuned!
This is day 3 of eating kibble. I don’t help them at all. Just put it down. They smell it and come right over. It is a gruel as their teeth are just popping through. I will get a photo today or tomorrow. I let Haven come in close to the end and help clean up. They also get water offered multiple times a day. As you can see, what goes in, certainly comes out (which is a good thing!)
Now, I want you to look at the arm of my couch. There is a little machine on it. That is the ICalm. I use it with all my puppies when I leave. It plays classical music, but has lots of sounds as background quiet noises. Noises that puppies will hear throughout their lives…sounds of life…computers, city noises, loudspeakers, honking horns, busses, babies crying, vacuums, everything you can think of. There are multiple chips you can interchange for different situations. Just another thing for acclimation.
Here is Tiquana showing off his milk teeth just popping through his gums. It won’t be long now until all the pups will start looking for lots of things to gnaw on. Get ready for toys!
We were fortunate enough to have visitors again today! And within that group were some great kids, so the pups got some special socialization time with some young people. When you socialize, remember all ages and stages!
The pups, and all the Siberians, liked meeting and greeting everyone. It will only make every pup more comfortable with all folks as they get older.
Here is Shyla, the little gal with the big voice just a howling away. She likes to make sure others know she is around! No doubt, personality is starting to come out.
Today was the first day I see some of the pups actually interacting with some of the toys, without me being involved! Big Whoop!! So nice to see that they are getting the hang of playtime! This is Nakai and the big bad wolf.
UH-OH! Pups are starting to get the hang of the door. Here Kaede is checking out the best way to broach the lower door. May be getting close to time to put up the higher or the two lower doors.
But realize, these are only temporary measures. In a few weeks they will absolutely broach the door and will need to go into their bigger digs. Time (and development!) does march on!
Here is just some perspective so you can see how much they have grown. The pups are nursing here at 3.5 weeks. Getting mighty crowded, but Haven is being quite the trooper!
Both gals LOVE the croaking frog! Nakai is taking her turn with it and giving her milk teeth some practice time. All the puppies are getting more and more interested in toys now and more interested in playing with each other!
Just a fun picture of Kaede with his Grandma. Each is equally cute. Gotta love them all! Oh, and need to tell you, I had to put the taller bottom door in today, as 3 are getting too close to broaching!
…And just a little photo of Shyla. All such cutie pattoties and little love bugs. Tomorrow, lots more big company so today was just a nice day to rest up. Then, Monday–4 weeks old! YIKES! Where does the time go?
More visitors today, several the pups had never met. So, it was a fun and busy day. In this photo, however, Tiquana is spending some time with Franny, who he has met before.
Just a pic of Tiquana, as a special request. Tomorrow, on their 4th week, nails will be done, as well as reworming and new pics for all!
Hard to believe these pups just arrived 4 weeks ago! But it is true. Here is Kaede who weighs in at 5# 3.5 oz. on the scale. Today, I started just mashing their food and all did just fine with it!
Nakai is 5# 4 oz. and all healed. She is looking fabulous, too! The pups are learning the sound of the clicker means good things and that is great!
Ta`te has gained the most this week and is 5# 9.5 oz! What a big boy! Everyone has learned to howl and expresses themselves when they are hungry. It is quite loud in here at feeding time between the pups and the elders!
Shyla is just a hair over her sister, Nakai, at 5# 5 oz. this week. So, she is no slouch either! Everyone is active, playing, eating, peeing, pooping and doing what puppies should be doing!
Tiqaana is 4# 15.5 oz. so he is growing quite at a regular pace, too. All the pups come over for regular grandma loving everyday. Very soon we will start “7 by 7”! Stay tuned!
Lunch is over for the pups and they did a great job, as you can see. But, now it is sack time for everyone. Reminds me of Thanksgiving Day…
…everyone heads to their own little spots for an afternoon snooze – full, happy and ready to dream of big things to come!
Ears are starting to come up! Several of the pups are mid rise today, so that is very exciting! Here Nakai is showing off her 1.5 ears up! Both will be up by tomorrow, I ‘spect.
Pups are starting their 7 by 7 program now. That means that by the time they are 7 weeks old they will have walked or run on 7 different surfaces.
Really, today is the third surface, as they have already been on puppy whelping bedding and on carpet.
Two folks sit on the floor and create a diamond and do recall with the pups so they go back and forth. Each pup gets lots of love and husky hugs at both ends, along with a click! Yes, this uses clicker training, too!
Even though not every pup is photographed, they all had fun today with their time on the linoleum. Next week…ceramic tile…Whoopie! (As a side note, sorry for skipping yesterday. Had a washer blowout and flood. Today, had a water softener blowout and flood. OI!)
Everyone had their first time on the grooming table today. They were introduced to the grooming loop and had their first brush and comb out! Not even one of the pups disliked either the comb or brush, which is a good thing-. Haven came to watch with each puppy, but she is well aware of the routine! This is Kaede, as you probably know.
This morning after breakfast the pups were introduced to something special taking them back to their roots…ice! Ice can be noisy. It is ok for them to be startled when things are noisy. It is how they react after the noise that is important. You want them to be curious and interested about the noise and not fearful. Good curious interested Siberian puppies!
The pups are 5 weeks old today and as you can see we had company! We really had LOTS of company and LOTS of noise as the Culligan men came and installed the new water softener. They didn’t want to leave without some puppy love, so each got some from the Culligan men, too! These great gals are my friends Ann and Sue.
Sue decided to give Nakai a special hug and Nakai just ate it up. She is quite the love bug, as are all her Siberian Siblings!
Here is the gang all lined up for their weights and here they are…5 weeks old (L to R) – Nakai ~ 6# 3.5 oz., – Ta`te ~ 6# 15.5 oz., – Shyla ~ 6# 7.5 oz., – Tiqaana ~ 6# 2 oz., – Kaede ~ 6# 4.5 oz. Pups are eating twice a day and nursing between 2-3 times daily. All is well.
There is no doubt when you are tired, you are just tired and will sleep in any position. Now Ta`te was fast asleep, but the flash made him just open his eyes a tidge, but he had not moved a muscle. He was exhausted from playing long and hard with his littermates. Playtime, with toys and littermates, takes up much to their waking time now. Then-sleep!
Now here is Ta`te just stretched out for his mid morning snooze. I remember when I could do that…!
The next series of 5 pics are the 5 week old photos. Some are full face and some are side view so you can get a good selection of visuals. This is Ta`te.
Ears are still in process, some are totally up, some partially up, and 1 mid way up. Every pup is different and grows/develops differently…Hey! just like kids! This is Kaede.
They are getting used to having their pics taken, I think. Just check out this pose! Here is Nakai, very used to props and even the gobbling noisy turkeys behind her!
Shyla is quite the player and loves to romp with all her littermates! Don’t let her name fool you, she is not a wallflower, but she is a sweetie!
Tiqaana has a beautiful face and gorgeous stop. His looks fit his personality, too, he is a lover, but they all are. All the pups have become very people oriented and seek human attention! That is a very good thing!
Think Shyla is trying to tell me something? or is it a ‘cool’ place to rest and fits her just right. Only she knows for sure! One thing for sure, Siberians always do like cool places to lie and that does start early. Instinct…! Who knows?
Yes, I know! Hang in there, Monday is only a few days away and preparations are happening! I know it is getting crowded in there and you “little” (?) pups need more space. The countdown is on and it will be worth it!
Curious little Siberians checking out the new mop! Love how some just jump right in (literally) and others need to see how this unfolds. This will be the only pic today as it is prep day getting ready for tomorrow. It is the beginning of a BIG new chapter. I will try to do a video showing them in their new space. But, regardless, loads of pics coming tomorrow. Stay tuned!
The pups are still nursing and this is one of the last one before the pups move into their new spaces tomorrow. Exciting…for Haven…I think not!
The back room is pretty well cleaned out and ready. Time to get down to work!
Ash, always the curious helper, is ready to go and wanting to help!
Bottom layers laid and playpen is opened up and brought in.
Pups have been introduced to crates and the whelping box has been taken apart and deep cleaned. Even though it is cleaned multiple times a day…lots of puppy crud gets into those crevices. YUK!
Whelping box is now in the back room with the playpen. Here is where the adventure box / ball pit will go now.
Still wanting to help. Ash is again in the middle of all the action. What else is new?
The pups have had a very LOUD time and letting everyone know their feelings about being in crates…thirsty, hungry and not having access to mom. But, they just had a nice drink and have now settled down for a great snooze. Just like all the others. AND, I know there are only 4. That is because Fran has shown up and needed to give each some special Franny time. See the next photo!
Fran got each pup out and gave each some special love during this tough morning. We all love Fran…esp. because it is her birthday! Here she is with Ta`te.
No matter how hard we are all working, gotta have time for a great birthday party with cake and Cassadaga pizza! Happy birthday, Fran, and thank you for all your special love with each of these wonderful puppies!
Still snoozing. No doubt they are very tired!
This is the whelping box in the back and the playpen in the front. They are both attached. There will be a fence around both.
The pups woke up! And, what woke them up? Well, after our little bd. get together, we opened puppy toys for the new playpen and the pups, of course, heard all the neat new sounds…gorilla, pig, chimp, canada goose!
Here are a few getting a sneak peek at the oinking piggy! They like them!!
Just getting all the final zip tie touches on the fence. Almost done!
Adding toys and a few tunnels in the playpen part. Pads are in the whelping box part.
The pups will eat and drink in the playpen part now, too, and training will happen there.
Everybody in and is checking things out. It didn’t take them too long to start running around from front to back.
The pups were busy playing in the tunnels, with eachother and with the toys. I did a video which shows when they first went in which will be on tomorrow.
Tired Ta`te! Really tired everyone. Sleep well everyone as all need to get up early. Morning will become electric for your car ride to the vet! 6 week shots pave the way to the big wide world awaiting you all!
Boy how things change. The Adventure Box will be assembled tomorrow afternoon and set up in this fenced area. Wondering if I will get my living room back?
Hi ho, Hi ho, it’s off to the vets we go! It is time for our first vaccinations and to see if we are a healthy bunch!
Check everything, Dr. Carroll. Have to be sure all is in good working condition for our grand entrances into the world!
We love all our vets, really! But Siberians puppies are such love bugs and take every opportunity for some extra love time!
Can you tell what will be happening Friday? Yepper! It is the beginning of collars. Red and bones for the girls. Royal, Teal and Black for the boys. I took a video of the pups in the Adventure Box today. Hope to get it on the website in the next few days. Happy Thanksgiving all from Amarok Siberians!
The pups all wore their collars while in the adventure box on Thanksgiving Day. It was a gentle introduction for them. Here is Kaede with his.
Tiquana also didn’t have a problem with his either. Everyone got theirs put on when they were on the grooming table. I sized them and put them on and then put them in the box to play. Oddly, everyone is just about the same size.
As you can see, Shyla just went about her business, too, smelling things and playing. The biggest things you see with collar adjustment is scratching, scratching, scratching! What IS this thing around my neck, anyway??
Tiquana should be “Snoopy” — wondering what is around Nakai’s neck. Siberians…the curious ones!
Just Nakai peeking in to say “HI!”.
Everyone had double duty today. Each spent time in the crate while waiting their turn on the grooming table for a nice little spruce up. I decided to do a little headshot of the blue eyed boys today. Here is Kaede.
…and here is Tiquana with his time on the grooming table. Each got a quick wash, brush and comb out. As you can see, his ears have finally caught up with his littermates. Every pup has their own developmental rate and does things at their own speed. It is just the way things are.
Hard to believe that 7 weeks has passed since these little puppletts arrived! But it has. It was impossible to get all 5 together in 1 shot because the gate is too narrow, so you will just have to visualize! Here is Kaede, Nakai and Tiquana all planning their escape!
Here is another shot of the 3 and actually there had been a jailbreak with Ta`te and that is what Kaede is looking at! Wondering how did he get out of there?? Once they learn how to jump it is all over! Good news is that they can jump over the lower barrier, but not the upper….YET!
From l. to r. here is Ta`te, Nakai, Shyla and Kaede. I did their weights yesterday and all are doing great. Ta`te-10# 12.5 oz., Tiquana-9# 15 oz., Kaede-9# 14 oz., Nakai-9# 6.5 oz., Shyla-9# 14 oz.
I added this last pic as poor Ta`te had his little face cut off a little and I wanted to show his beautiful full face. So here is Nakai, Shyla and cutie pie, Ta`te. Exciting day tomorrow…going to the nursing home for their first visit! Can not wait to introduce the pups to all the residents who have been anticipating this litter for months!! Photos tomorrow!!
Ta`te and Tiquana are playing tugs with a teaspoon that one of them snagged off the adventure box! Little thieves they are! No doubt, they will get into EVERYTHING, no matter how well you think you have it knotted down!
After the nursing home this morning (pics tomorrow), the pups got introduced to the leash. Nothing too exciting, but some time outside in the nice breezes getting used to a part of their new life. This photo and the next are Ta`te. There are 2 pics of each puppy.
Each pup got some time on cement, asphalt and grass. Now, let’s see where we are in the 7 by 7…bedding, rug, linoleum, ceramic tile, cement, grass, water, asphalt. I think we are doing AOK.
Kaede also enjoyed his time on the leash. Everyone started their time just kind of checking things out and seeing how much the leash would give. Then, at varying times, they did walk to/from/with me. I used the clicker with much praise for ‘walkies’.
Here Kaede is watching some fall leaves blowing as it is quite a windy day outside. As always the true Siberian, he is very curious and needs to know what is happening!
Tiquana is really strutting his stuff in this pic. He was quite enamored with his own shadow and seemed to watch it a lot when he was outside. It is always interesting to see how each puppy differs when they are outside for the first time!
It took Tiquana a few minutes to decide to leave his shadow then he had a ball, esp. on the grass, which he actually thought might taste pretty good…I thought not at this age.
Nakai didn’t take long to decide it was a good thing to run on the leash, whether on the asphalt or grass. She occasionally decided to get between my feet and tried to trip me up…Now, that would have been a bad thing!
Nakai decided she should run on the grass, too. She just didn’t care what was under her feet, she was going. Typical, so typical!
Here Shyla is doing the crossover as is her brother Kaede in one of the prior photos. This is very nice, Shyla, keep it up for your advanced training!
Shyla did exceptionally well on the leash in a very short period of time. She acclimated quickly. I look forward to working with them on lead again in a few days.
The pups went to the nursing home with us yesterday and were a big hit! They know Haven and had watched her pregnancy so were excited to see the pups now that they had their shots and could visit.
We go to several nursing homes monthly with the adult dogs, but it is always extra special with the puppies! It is great to see the residents start talking about the dogs they had and loved. It is just very special!
The pups are all so gentle with the residents and love to be held and cuddled. It is wonderful as they get used to all the different ways folks hold and handle them, all with love and caring.
I take pics of the folks and then bring the pics down the next day. Every single one hangs the pics in their room as a wonderful memento! One actually has it in a shadowbox!
Some people become more animated, too, and that is extra special!!
Siberian Smooches are quite exquisite, too, whether on your cheek or on your hand. Doesn’t matter to me!
Hugs, hugs, hugs! Everyone loves hugs and husky hugs are extremely special!
The next few photos are just some stills when I put the pups out in the pen for their second day. This is, of course, Tiquana.
They all had a great time running and playing, but since I did a video yesterday with them running, these are just stills. I decided to put them out before the rain as it will be a rainy afternoon. Here’s Kaede.
They all have a good time chasing leaves, rolling in the grass and have even started peeing outside. So, that is a very great thing to see! This is Ta`te and Kaede.
Here is Nakai doing her best imitation of a hunting dog, without prey! They stayed out a short time and were somewhat pissed to come in but, they are dogs, after all, so they got over it with a nice drink!
I bought the pups a new tunnel with 3 entrances for a change. It is a big hit. I use it in the big area though as they play pretty rough with it! They are at an age when they have MUCH energy that needs to be expended and are very curious. Busy is a HUGE understatement!!
Unfortunately, all the tunnels are for cats so they do not hold up exceptionally well, and need to be replaced quite often, especially with Siberians! But, they are well worth it. However, the little dangly bells and balls need to come off right away as those can be in bellies, which is a very bad thing.
One of the other tunnels has already bitten the dust. The metal rims start to come through the material and that is when you know it is time to pitch them.
There is a hole in the center of this one where they can pop their head through, as Ta`te so aptly demonstrates for you! Cute!
The pups all had a great day a few days ago. Weather was nice and they just loved it! Here is a nice straight on pic of Tiquana just coming around the Bend, like his maternal Grandpa.
Kaede looks like he is ready for the hills, just chawing on some long strings of grass. Such a face! There are certainly times when they are go-go-go, and sometimes when they just want to hang back and relax and watch.
Nothing is off limits for Siberians-adults or puppies. Just when you think you can take an eye off them, you are wrong and they will be one step ahead of you AND getting into mischief or maybe even worse!
So, we went up to see my Mentor and friend, Mickie, who checked the pups out thoroughly. She has been into Siberians professionally her entire life and is encyclopedic about them! Here she is just taking a nice long gander at the to get the long view.
Mickie is taking a nice look at Nakai in this photo. As you can see, Nakai likes her as do all dogs. She is a dog magnet and they love her. She has a great way with them.
Before we left, she gave Tiquana a nice husky hug. She thought the whole litter was very sound and quite consistent…all very good things. More shortly.
The pups are ok with vacuuming, as you can see. The 5th is actually asleep on the other side of the Adventure Box. They have been used to vacuums since early on. Don’t vacuum directly at the dogs. I actually vacuum with my back towards them in the beginning and do it matter of fact. It is just part of life they need to adjust to. I also never look them directly in the eye when vacuuming. If they seem a little afraid, I let them smell it when it is off. And, yes, in this photo, the vacuum is on.
I had to redo the LR pen as all the pups can either jump or climb out of the white fence and they needed a bigger play area, anyway. So, here is their larger area for their final short time here. That should make them happy as they will be pretty much indoors with the “big blow” coming tonight through the beginning of the weekend. AHHH, the sweet smell of Lake Effect! Just love it! If it isn’t too bad, will give the pups their first taste of snow and post!
…and here is the gang at almost 9 weeks old in the new and improved LR pen with the much higher walls and more room. L to R: Shyla, Tiquana, Ta`te, Kaede and Nakai.
Today, before the heavy snows are schedule to arrive, the pups had a chance to play in the light dusting of snow outside as a preview. It was cold and windy, but they loved it. They had about 30 minutes and just had a riot…a Siberian riot!
All of them just had a ball playing, still checking out the leaves and chawing on some grass.
Then, they take a little break and just watch for a bit. But, I do have to say, it is a short break!
Sometimes they hang up by the house and sometimes they hang down closer to the barn. Guess it depends on their mood, but when they go from one end to the other, it is at top speed.
They all had big bouts of running back and forth and expelling some of that huge puppy energy that is truly boundless at this age.
Just a fun shot of Tiquana doing his imitation of Hi Ho Silver…AWAY! (Yes, I know I am typing my age…)
The one thing I do notice is that when the pups relax, they tend to do it by the house as that is the highest point and they have the best view from there! Who says pups don’t pick things up quickly??
Here is the gang enjoying their last peek at grass. It is all white outside now. Wait until tomorrow!!
It is good to let the pups know early on the it is absolutely AOK for human folks to be in their food bowls. So, I occasionally put a finger in and swirl it around just to let them know! It also puts my scent on their food so they know WHO it comes from. All good things come from me and folks I associate with.
9 weeks old and starting to think about Christmas! It was a very busy day for our Amarok gang today. Pups started out the day at the vets with their weights, vaccinations and microchips. – And don’t forget all that special vet love, too! Ta`te’s weight today is 13# 5 oz.
All the pups did great, even with the microchip! And, another first! Each pup got a ‘taste’ of peanut butter, just as a little distraction. They were all champs and not a peep out of any of them…didn’t even notice. I think they can learn to like the taste of peanut butter…lol! Kaede’s weight today is 12# 7 oz.
Everyone also got wormed again, so they are clean as a whistle! They also got a nice nail trim and full evaluation. Everyone passed, which is a ‘good thing’, as Martha would say! Tiquana weighed in today at 12# 9 oz.
Once that was done, everyone had a little nap then we went over to SUC Fredonia for some time with the students. All the pups did fantabulous! No one was fearful with the huge mob of loving students in the library. They were loved, hugged and socialized to the hilt. Shyla’s weight today is 11# 8 oz.
We took loads of photos that I will download and post tomorrow as we are doing day 2 tomorrow. This is enough for today. Everyone is very tired and snoozing already. zzzzz….
Nakai’s weight today is 12# 1 oz. All are gaining weight at a good consistent rate. Dr. Carroll is pleased. Next vaccine is due at 12 weeks.
We went to the college today during exam week which is something Amarok does twice yearly. This time ’round we took the pups for some additional socialization. As you can see by all the happy faces, they were a big hit and the pups loved it, too!
We could hardly get into the library without being stopped more times that we could count. None of the pups were fearful, just very curious and wanting to meet these nice young people.
Everyone got time on the floor to ‘meet and greet’ and then we had lots of 1:1 time with big husky hugs. The pups are always willing to oblige…(big Siberian smile!)
The time just flew by and then we were given the 5 minute warning and needed to wrap it up. But, what a successful day it was for all involved. {Pups also have gone through a car wash and did wonderfully…great news is that none were so dirty that I needed to hang them out the window during it…HAHA!}
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and we had to cancel our second day. This is what occasionally happens when you live near a Lake that takes it time to freeze. AHHH…life in NY! But, the experience yesterday was splendid for all of us. Thank you from all of us at Amarok Siberians!
Well it is time for a few new toys! Truly, you can only wash them so many times when they need to be washed daily! And the pups really know they are new and love it! This is a nice LOOOOONG one with multiple squeakers. Loads of fun!
We had a play date with Jackie and Shel again today and they had another meet and greet with Cinnamon and Xandaar. Lots of fun, running around the kitchen and hallway and spending time with the dogs and visiting. Who can ask for a better fun morning?
More snow to play in that all 5 pups love. It does tire them out more, I do have to admit. Their leg muscles are really getting a good workout!
But they all do stop when they get tired and just take a break. One good thing about dogs, they know when they are tired and relax. Smarter than folks, many times…
So these are the pups after their first romp in really deep snow (for them, at least). They were pretty revved up for a bit, but then they relaxed and everybody fell asleep…
…and Nakai decided to get in normal sleeping position carried down from Kayta, to Haven, etc., etc….
I just wanted to let you know that the puppies are turning in REAL Siberian Huskies with their first outdoor dig! How exciting for them…and how ‘routine’ for me! AHHH, life with Siberians, no matter what the age…it is instinct!
It has been a very busy few days with 2 pups leaving for their new homes. It is bittersweet, somewhat like having your children go off to College. They need to spread their wings and fly, but it is still a little sad. Anyway, here is the gang after a long day playing outside taking a snooze…kind of reminded me of ‘ring around the toys’, but nobody cared! Pups turned 10 weeks today, but will get their individual pics and weights up tomorrow.
The pups just turned 10 weeks old this week and such a big milestone deserves some big stuff! SOOOO, new fun toys are making an entrance. And, in true Siberian form, they took their time, checking them out, but then found they were wonderful!
Also, for their big day, they got to play (kind of) with the big dogs! Everybody got some free time outside running in the crusty snow. You need to be careful and they still are babes and the adults can be pretty rough, but a great time was had by all, even with the intervening fence!
The pups are eating all their meals in their crates now. The big play area in the LR has been disbanded and they spend multiple play times outside in the play area. They also got their next size collars. Black for Ta`te, Blue for Nakai and Red for Shyla.
As you can see our numbers are dwindling and we are down to 3. The terrific trio! All turned 10 weeks old and are growing beautifully. Ta`te weighs in at 16# 9 oz.
Nakai and Shyla are still about the same weight as they have always been throughout their lives. Nakai is 14# 8 oz.
Tiquana and Kaede both left for their new homes and are doing great. Photos shortly.
Shyla is only 2 oz. less that her sister…14# 6 oz. Now that each eats individually in their crates, it is easier to see how much each one eats. When they all communally eat, it is hard to judge. They eat twice/day, morning and mid-late afternoon.
Pups are coming along with crate training. They are spending some time daily in their crates and learning it is kind of nice to have some individual space! All part of growing up Siberian! Taking it one step at a time here at Amarok.
We got through Christmas and their 11 week birthday with flying colors. Only Ta`te is waiting for his forever home which is out there! Here things are in big crate training mode. Shyla (L) and Ta`te (R) learn just to keep themselves relaxed and occupied while crated and life goes on around them. Ash is ‘laxin on the couch and Haven is losing the rest of what little hair she had left after whelping. Shyla’s weight today is 14# 4 oz and Ta`te is 18# 3 oz. Nakai went to her forever home and is doing just great there.
Tiquana has left for his forever home. He is living in NY with a wonderful Malamute and his 1 year old full sister. He is loving his new Malamute sibling and loves playing with the sister he never knew he had!
Kaede has left for his new home in NJ. He is living with a terrific loving family. Dad isn’t in this photo as he had to work, but he came down for another visit and is excited to have Kaede join their family, too!
When they came to p/u Kaede, the kids had on puppy/ Kaede college shirts! So adorable that I needed to show you all!
Nakai has gone to her new home in NY, too! She lives with a splendid loving 5 member family who already love her to death. They are hoping to get her a little brother next summer which will be fun for all!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? No, it is a flock of geese! Now, that is attention…
Deep snow doesn’t stop these Siberian pups. This pic and the next two just show Ta`te out in the several feet of snow we have had since Christmas.
He and Shyla have had a blast out, even in the single digits, playing in it. Running, jumping, digging…they just LOVE it!
But, when the adult Siberians come in, they want to follow suit. It is always apparent that they are pack dogs and follow the leader.
Living on the Chautauqua Ridge, we get hit with Lake Effect snow and for the last week of snow, it has been a doozy! So I thought I would add a few snow pics of the pups. They have fun running and jumping and just tearing around.
It is great for their muscles and endurance. It also tires them out. They create paths in the snow where they travel when they tire, just like the adults do. But, like true Siberians, the live for this weather and can’t wait for their next time out in it!
We went to another best friend’s home yesterday and Shyla and Ta`te were introduced to Deacon and Song, her Goldens. They took a few minutes to get used to her place which is normal, but then enjoyed themselves. Here Shyla is sitting for Barb and getting a piece of her Annamaet dog food.
I am starting to have the pups learn to go down to the floor and I use the command “floor”. Here Barb has Ta`te go to the floor and also get a piece of his kibble for his special treat.
Here Ta`te visits Song through the gate initially. They also got to meet Deacon, who was in his crate. There was lots of good vibrations between the dogs, tail wagging and we knew it would be a great visit!
They also got to meet Song up close and personal. Here is where Ta`te gets his first sniff of her. Notice he just sniffs the air around her. This is what dogs do to get their first scent.
Ta`te was first in for his first bath. He got all soaped up and enjoyed the warm water. His sister even tried to help clean off the bubbles several times. She is SUCH a good helper! I don’t wash their heads and keep their ears nice and dry. It is easy to do a dry wash for their face and muzzles. I want their first baths to be a great and fun experience.
Today was first bath day! Here is cutie patootie Shyla in the tub. I have a big dog tub which I use in the summer but I just use the bathtub in winter. Shyla jumped right in when she saw Ta`te in and did quite well for her first time. Scrubbing bubbles all around! Shyla is still available and would make a great addition to any home! She and Ta`te have started their STAR puppy classes!
Here they are pretty well dried and nice and pouffy! They both also had their first experience with the blow dryer today. I started to just let them experience it with their feet and slowly moved it up higher on their coat with lots of great praise and a happy voice. Both accepted it well and I feel they will be fine with it.
I dragged the first part of the jungle gym out of the barn for the pups today. It takes a bit for them to get used to it. I just let them explore. No pressure, just let them check it out at their leisure.
It usually doesn’t take too long before they are rip roaring ready to jump, climb, go in, out and under it.
And, Ta`te & Shyla are just like every other Siberian puppy, loving movement and using all their big muscles in lots of new ways!
It was a bright cold morning and after a nice romp, I found Shyla and Ta`te just chillin’. Nice…
